LOCAL SEO
Why local SEO matters
Most local searches end with a call or a visit to one of the few businesses Google shows in the map pack. If your business isn’t there, those customers go to a competitor. Local SEO is the work that earns that spot and keeps it.

HOW IT WORKS
How Google decides who shows up in the map pack
Google says local results are based mainly on three things. Every part of our local SEO work is designed to improve at least one of them.
Relevance
How well your business matches what someone searched for. We improve it with the right Google Business Profile categories, complete service lists and service pages that clearly describe what you do.
Distance
How far your business is from the searcher or the location in their search. You can’t move your office, but location pages and service-area settings help you compete across the areas you serve.
Prominence
How well known and trusted your business is. Reviews, local links, citations and mentions across the web all build prominence over time.
GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE
What we optimize on your Google Business Profile
- Primary and secondary categories matched to how customers search
- Business description, services and products written with the right keywords
- Service areas and hours, including holiday hours
- Photos and posts that keep the profile active and show your work
- Questions and answers that address common customer concerns
- A review request process and guidance on responding to reviews
LOCAL VS. TRADITIONAL SEO
How local SEO differs from traditional SEO
Traditional SEO focuses on ranking web pages in the regular organic results. Local SEO adds a second goal: showing up in the map pack and Google Maps for searches with local intent, like near me searches or searches that include a city name.
For many local businesses, the map pack is the most visible spot on the results page. That’s why our local SEO work combines website optimization with Google Business Profile management, citations and reviews. The two reinforce each other, and the same signals also help AI tools recommend your business.
QUICK SELF CHECK
Signs your local SEO needs work
- You don’t show up in the map pack when you search for your main service plus your city
- Your Google Business Profile hasn’t been updated in months
- Competitors have far more recent reviews than you do
- Your business name, address or phone number is listed differently on different sites
- You have one services page instead of a page for each service
- Your site is slow or hard to use on a phone
If two or more of these sound familiar, a free AI visibility check is a good place to start.

FAQ
Local SEO Services questions
How long does local SEO take?
Most local businesses start seeing real leads from search somewhere in months 4 to 6, with results compounding from months 6 to 12. I break down the full timeline in How Long Does Local SEO Really Take?
What is the Google map pack?
It’s the group of businesses Google shows on a map near the top of local search results. For many service businesses it’s where most of the calls come from.
Can I rank in the map pack without a storefront?
Yes. Service-area businesses can hide their address and list the areas they serve instead. The profile still needs to be complete and supported by strong service and location pages.
Do reviews really affect local rankings?
Reviews are part of what Google calls prominence. A steady flow of genuine reviews, and thoughtful responses to them, also makes searchers more likely to choose you once they see your listing.
What are local citations?
Citations are mentions of your business name, address and phone number on other sites, like directories and data aggregators. Consistent citations help Google and AI tools trust that your business information is accurate.
Will I work with you directly?
Yes. Dustin de Koekkoek sets the strategy for every account and stays involved each month, and Blue Media’s team handles execution. You get weekly updates on the work completed and a monthly analytics report.
